When Matt married me he got a package deal. I came with two cats. Matt was a dog person and less than thrilled about the prospect of adding cats to his life. Since he had no choice in the matter, however, he decided to make do.
Jasmine is our oldest, almost 12. My mom saw her at a pet store and had to get her for me. She had been abandoned as a kitten and was in foster care. I was in-between my junior and senior years of college and living in Boise. I drove to Spokane to pick her up, and she was absolutely adorable. During the 8 years that I lived alone in my Nampa apartment she was a great source of companionship. She always greeted me at the door and was my furry shadow any time I was home.
Jasmine liked being an only cat and I had no intention of getting another one, but that all changed the day I found Romeo. I was driving to the gym with a friend and stopped at a light on a busy street. I looked over and saw something very small and black hoping in the grass in front of a restaurant. After a moment I realized it was a tiny kitten. We pulled over in the parking lot and rescued him. He was very grateful and very cuddly. My friend decided I should name him Romeo. The plan was to just keep him long enough to find a good home for him. By the time I found someone who was interested, I was way too attached and he was mine.
Romeo is about 4 years old now, and we love him dearly. He has tended to be our troublemaker, but he is cute enough to get away with it. He likes to play and wrestle, but also likes to curl up in my lap and take a nap. All of our friends comment on how unique his eyes are and I think he is probably the most expressive cat I've ever met. He can say so much with just a look.
Our kitties are so cute and snuggly that Matt has come to love and enjoy them both, in spite of himself. You can see more pictures of our furry friends in our pets photo gallery.
