To Do In The Treasure Valley:
Favorite Movie Theater: Overland Park Cinemas
Overland Park is not the nicest of cinemas, but it is certainly the cheapest. For $4 you get admission and two food items. You can't beat that for a cheap date.
Favorite Mini Golf: Shankz Black-light Mini Golf
Shankz is a great date idea. It is the only place around where you get to play golf in 3D. Everything from the floor to the giant statues pop out at you and practically come to life. Adding the depth perception issues adds a whole new degree of challenge to the game.
Favorite Arcade: Wahooz Family Fun Zone
I'm not usually an arcade person, but Matt and I went here and had a blast. They have tons of ticket games and you can trade in your tickets for silly prizes. We also enjoyed the childhood classics such as skee-ball. In addition to the arcade, Wahooz has mini golf, bumper boats and laser tag.
Favorite Special Occasion Restaurant: The Mona Lisa
This is a great little Fondue Restaurant in Nampa. The atmosphere is very romantic and has been a favorite for Anniversaries and other special occasions.
Favorite Theatre to See a Play: Starlight Mountain Theatre and Prairie Dog Productions
I had to list two theatres here because they are both great and offer family friendly entertainment. Starlight performs during the summer at Starlight Amphitheater which is an outdoor summer playhouse that sits on the bank of the Middlefork of the Payette River. They do some really fun musicals and do a great job. They also have dinner available for those who want dinner first.
Prairie Dog Productions is different from most theatre events in that it involves audience participation. The plays are silly, the audience is encouraged to boo the bad guys and cheer for the good guys, and I've seen the actors have sword fights right through the middle of the audience. If you want to laugh and have a lighthearted evening this is for you.
Favorite Romantic Getaway: The Anniversary Inn
We love this hotel for its unique theme rooms. We try to stay at the Anniversary Inn at least once a year. Whether you are looking for elegance or adventure, this hotel has something for everyone. So far we have slept in a tree house and taken a shower via an elephant trunk, had our very own movie theater in our bedroom complete with popcorn and a soda fountain, and stayed in a presidential suite with a fireplace and marble tub. The next room we have booked has a Harley Davidson and a pinball machine. We highly recommend that all you married folk give this place a try.
Other Favorite Links:
Kids-in-mind.com
This is our favorite website for determining the "appropriateness" of a movie before we head off to the theater. This website reviews movies and rates them for sex, violence, and language as well as giving a description of the scenes that cause these ratings. This website has kept us from seeing many a movie that we thought would be completely appropriate but discovered to be quite the opposite. (I was going to see a PG movie but didn't go thanks to Kids-in-mind when I discovered that it used the Lord's name in vain 23 times.)
Build a Bear
Are you ever really too old for stuffed animals? I sure hope not, since Matt and I have had two dates to Build a Bear so far. At least we will have kids soon so we will have a better excuse to spend time there.
Advocare
Advocare is a company that manufactures nutrition, sports performance, energy and weight loss products. I have been a distributor for them for many years and still love the products. We buy our basic multi-vitamin, Omega-3, and much more through them. (Michael W. Smith even takes and endorses these products.)
Life Church
We attended Life Church from the summer of 2007 - 2009. They have a great website that has free audio MP3s of all of the services as well as videos of some of the sermons.
