One of the assignments I found most beneficial during the Life Church School of Ministry was preparing and delivering a sermon. It was the most nerve-wracking task, for sure. It was also the most rewarding, because it required that I really dig into the Word of God and study out the topic I was to speak on.
The requirements were simple enough: Prepare and deliver a sermon 12 to 15 minutes in length following the outline format given to us in class. We had free reign to preach on any topic. I had it really easy because the Holy Spirit literally gave me the subject matter and main points when I was driving in my car one day. From those broad strokes I put together the sermon and fleshed out the details including illustrations, as directed by our teacher (Pastor Mark). I thoroughly enjoyed it, and learned a lot through the process.
I believe the Lord gave me this material to share because He wanted His people to hear it. I'm so excited that — through the power of the Internet — now anyone who wants to can listen to the sermon and download my notes for their person study and reflection. I hope you enjoy it; God bless you.
