On December 14, 2008 we found out that we were pregnant, after about six months of trying.
Jade and I were visiting her parents in Spokane, Washington to celebrate her birthday and an early Christmas. She was late, so we figured she was probably pregnant already, but we waited to find out for sure until our "pretend Christmas" morning. She took the test and it was positive, and yes - I cried. (Those who know me well will not be surprised by this at all, because I'm a total softie)
Prior to opening stockings and presents Jade broke the news to her folks. She said, "Mom, there was one thing you really wanted for Christmas this year. It was a tough order, but we were able to accommodate you and get it after all." I walked over and pulled the pregnancy test out of my pocket and said, "There are two bars; that means Jade is pregnant and you're officially grandparents!"
We got the reaction we were hoping for - one of COMPLETE surprise. Because we hadn't announced we were pregnant when they picked us up at the airport they assumed we were not. We wanted to share the news with them immediately after finding out (for sure). Of course they were absolutely thrilled, and mom couldn't contain her excitement OR think straight for the rest of the day. It was a wonderful time of celebration, and we were so happy to share it with them. |
